Jhado Tulku Rinpoche – The Teachings of the Buddha in One Verse

Do not commit any negative actions

Perform perfect virtuous actions,

Subdue your mind thoroughly –

This is the teaching of the Buddha.

This verse is one of the most famous lessons of the Buddha which subsumes the complete teachings of the Buddha in just four lines.

During more than 2,600 years, numerous Buddhist practitioners practiced the Buddhist training based on the three principles mentioned here, consisting of the two aspects of Buddhism – method and wisdom.

The method aspect is the basis for the Buddha teachings. It deals with moral conduct – as much as possible avoiding harming yourself and others; cultivating positive actions that aim to benefit and help as many sentient beings as possible; and developing positive qualities like compassion, loving kindness, generosity, patience and so on.

The mind should be trained by these principles of the method aspect. Furthermore, concentration and wisdom should be enhanced – the wisdom which understands the reality as it is, the reality that we consistently misperceive. By training our mind according to this 4-line verse, we will fully utilize the nature of our mind and attain Liberation and perfect Enlightenment.

During the last year we could not meet our teachers face-to-face.  However, we are fortunate to get online instructions and teachings from our teachers, which help us coping with our difficulties and enable us to continue our spiritual journey, despite of the hardships and challenges of these times.

We are extremely happy that our precious teacher, Jhado Tulku Rinpoche, graciously accepted our request and will give us two days of teachings on the essence of the Buddhist path.
