The Path to Happiness and Medicine Buddha Meditation

June 2 - June 11, 2000
at Cloud Mountain Retreat Center

The Tibetan Buddhist tradition contains a step-by-step method for transforming our mind/heart into the mind/heart of a fully enlightened being. In the process of doing so, we are more comfortable with ourselves and get along better with others. In this gradual path to enlightenment (Lam Rim), we do not accept the teachings with blind faith, but check them by using reason and by putting them into practice. The retreat will consist of meditation instruction to develop concentration and insight, devotional practice, and discussion.

A manifestation of the healing aspect of all the Buddhas, the Medicine Buddha purifies the cause of spiritual and physical disease, the three poisons of attachment, anger and ignorance. Radiating lapis blue rays of light and energy, the Medicine Buddha dissolves the obstacles that prevent healing. The Medicine Buddha practice involves visualization and mantra recitation. Prior experience with the Medicine Buddha practice is not necessary.

This is a good retreat for those new to Buddhism, as well as long time practitioners, but some familiarity with basic Buddhism is recommended. Call Claire (see below) for a short suggested reading list to prepare. The retreat will be held in silence, although there is time designated for questions and sharing of experiences.
